As someone who lives in suburban Australia, in an old Federation home, I understand this house, its concept, and greatly admire its execution. Architects, Kennedy Nolan were approached to expand this Edwardian home situated in an historic neighbourhood in Melbourne, boasting an original wooden structure that could not be torn down. Aptly named the INDOOR | OUTDOOR HOUSE, its transformation is incredible. There's the considered melding of old and new, where materials meet and harmoniously interact. There's the light that pours in to the back of the home (something old homes here in Australia are largely devoid of) and, there's that sense of playfulness within the addition, where you can expect the unexpected. There are also those modest, well-executed details everywhere that contribute to the overall success of this building, and will now serve as great inspiration for my own home renovations.
