"I met Hamadou Frédéric Balde, a French cinematographer this past year, and we began this new collaborative film piece called NONNA. The concept of the film started with the story of my grandmother, Palmira Giglia, and the iconic turtleneck she created in the 60s, which I brought back under my line.
We serendipitously shot in Paris, Marrakech, New York, LA, and Tokyo. We are continuing the concept of travel to develop the story. Through traveling found beautiful, real people. Each with their own story, and special "essence," in the way they view life. The piece has now become an expression of movement between different ages, races, and genders.
The turtleneck became the common thread woven through each chapter of the film, each city representing a different color from the collection. It was used to merely show the body in its natural form of movement." - Giuliana Raggiani
