[ ARCHITECTURE ] DREAMSCAPES by STUDIO KO

S T U D I O  K O |   Architectural duo Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty, founders of the firm Studio KO, have a penchant for creating dreamscapes out of minimalist villas in the purest of settings; dwellings where every line, stone and detail is deliberate, creating a harmonious parallel between structure and landscape.  Balance is also achieved within the homes, realized by monochromatic interiors that enhance the relationship of indoor/outdoor, flow within spaces and the overall sense of calm. Dreamscapes... design that exudes a personal sense of sanctuary and spaces within which time stands still.

[ DESIGN ] PROGETTO DOMESTICO by VINCENZO DE COTIIS

PROGETTO DOMESTICO by VINCENZO DE COTIIS | My happy place would mostly likely not be a place but a space, pulled together by the thoughtful interplay between home and gallery; where a single line, object or furnishing can give you pause, a moment of respite, or act as a catalyst ... and everything is illuminated by design. Any of the works by Vincenzo De Cotiis within four walls would make this said space a reality.

'PROGETTO DOMESTICO IS A PATH THROUGH REINTERPRETED EVERYDAY OBJECTS.
CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUES AND EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES SHAPE PROCESSED MATERIALS ASSEMBLED WITH RECYCLED PARTS.

THIS ON-GOING PROJECT FOR AN IMAGINARY HOME OFFERS THE POSSIBILITY TO PERCEIVE THE SIGNS OF EVERYDAY LIFE THROUGH OBJECTS CREATED ACCORDING TO AN INTERPRETATION WHICH TRASCENDS THE LIMITS OF PURE DESIGN OBSESSED WITH THE LINES, BUT RATHER, THE PROPOSED IDEAS COMPOSE A VISION VERGING ON CONTEMPORARY ART.

VISUAL CODES, ARTISTIC OBJECTS AND PROTOTYPES CHARACTERIZED BY MATERIALS WORN AND DEFORMED BY TIME COME TO LIFE AGAIN IN UNEXPECTED SHAPES.
RECYCLED MATERIALS UNDERGO EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES WITH EMPHASIS ON INDUSTRIAL UNIQUENESS IN WHICH ELEMENTS CONFORM TO THE CONCEPT OF REUSE AND CONTEXT REPLACEMENT.

THE LEITMOTIF IS IN THE APPEARANCE OF SURFACES SUCH THAT THE MANUAL TREATMENT OF TEXTURES MANUALLY ACHIEVED ON DIFFERENT OBJECTS AND MATERIALS (FIBERGLASS, WAX, LEATHER, BRASS AND IRON) CREATES A NEW TACTILE AND VISUAL EXPERIENCE. THE VISUAL ASPECT MERGES WITH THE MATERIAL ITSELF THROUGH UNIQUE PIECES PRODUCED IN STRICTLY LIMITED EDITIONS.'

[ SPACES ] 'THONG HOUSE' by NISHIZAWAARCHITECTS

T H O N G   H O U S E   |  In former Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese studio NISHIZAWAARCHITECTS has managed to pull together a project that beautifully contradicts the conventional take on row house typology. Conceptually the clients vision was of spaces that stimulate engagement with nature and facilitate the idea of togetherness within the home, the approach was to step away from the traditional row house design and rather reinvent the idea of 'urban living'. An interplay between nature and space was achieved with a focus on volume and void throughout the home, with spaces that engage with botanical elements or open into lush views. Next, and personally my favorite architectural interruption within this project, the idea of using space to cultivate togetherness vs. divide. Which was visualized by thinking of space as a whole rather than individual components and focusing on the clients daily rhythm and fluidity within the home. Realized by open spaces that strengthen the relationship between and bring together areas within the home, intuitively doing the same for the occupants.
